NY Times Profiles Tim Tebow

Not that he needs any more attention, in the wake of two national championships and a Heisman trophy, not to mention the fact that virtually everyone associated with college football has picked the Florida Gators to repeat as SEC and BCS champions, but the NY Times ran a pretty level-headed profile of Tebow that had less to do with football and more to do with his off-the-field charitable work.
In an age where guys like Michael Vick, and to a lesser degree, Terell Owens, Plaxico Burress, and Donte Stallworth, have become representative of the lifestyle that so many football players lead, it would be nice if more kids coming out of college would strive to emulate a Tim Tebow. I don’t think we should be putting anyone on a pedestal, either, because sports has already becomeĀ an inappropriate venue for hero worship, but I think there’s something to be said for recognizing those players who are getting it right.
