Holtz Predicts Irish vs. Gators for BCS

I love Lou Holtz, in a crazy uncle kind of way. He was the last man to coach a Notre Dame team to a national championship, and for that, he will always have my respect. When he shows up as a college football analyst on ESPN, he’s the most unintentionally funny part of their coverage because he doesn’t care how he comes across.

Well, as the 2009 college football season is about to begin, crazy Uncle Lou has offered up a prognostication that warms my heart:

If Holtz is correct (unlikely), the Fighting Irish will face Florida in the Bowl Championship Series title game.

“I’m not saying they’re the No. 2 team in the country,” Holtz said on ESPN. “But if you look at the schedule and say who’s going to end up 11-1 or 12-0, I don’t think anyone has a better chance than the University of Notre Dame.”

I married into a Florida Gators family, so we’ve been very happy for the last few years. My wife is looking forward to watching Tim Tebow’s senior season this fall, and she expects to see Tebow and the Gators playing for the national championship in January. However, I’m not sure if our marriage could sustain a Gators versus Irish in that game.
